Are there other professions covered by the exceptions?
Yes, and they are listed in the resolution of the Council of Ministers that determined the restrictions. They are:
- Civil protection agents, security forces and services, military, militarized and civilian personnel of the Armed Forces and inspectors of the Food and Economic Security Authority;
- Holders of political positions, magistrates and directors of the social partners and political parties represented in the Assembly of the Republic;
- Priests or other ministers of worship, provided they are duly accredited;
- Support staff for the Government or Parliament and, within it, the parties with parliamentary representation, provided they present an accrediting document
What about children or young people who take classes?
They are not covered by the restrictions, like their companions, being able to go to schools, nurseries or leisure activities. The same applies to students in higher education.
Can children of separated parents change houses on weekends?

What happens if a previously scheduled judicial act or public deed is at stake?
Both cases are covered by the exceptions, which allow travel to participate in procedural acts with judicial entities or in acts of the competence of notaries, lawyers, solicitors, curators and registry officials.
Is it possible to attend a public service where an appointment has been made?
Whoever has a previously scheduled appointment in a public service, for example to obtain a citizen’s card, may keep it even if it means leaving their municipality of residence. In this case, however, the person must provide proof of the schedule.
Will a person traveling abroad have to postpone the trip?
Trips between municipalities to leave mainland Portugal are authorized, either to go to the airport or to cross the border by car.
Is national tourism authorized?
Citizens residing in the mainland of Portugal cannot leave their municipalities for tourism, even if they have previously made reservations in tourist establishments. In such cases, they must trigger the eventual reimbursement of the expenses that they have had with the reservations within the civil law norms provided for that purpose.
What if they are foreign tourists?
They are allowed to travel between counties, but only to travel to the place where they have a “proven stay.” Once installed, they will not be able to leave the respective municipality again. The same rule applies to Portuguese citizens who habitually reside in the Autonomous Regions of Madeira or Azores, but who travel to the mainland this weekend.
