Now it is final: Government suspends sport this weekend – Modalities

After advances and setbacks, now it is final: this weekend (starting this Friday) there will be no sport in Portugal, except for the 1st and 2nd football league.

Initially, not only the Liga NOS and the 2nd League were on the table, but also the Liga BPI (senior female), the Portuguese Championship and the Revelation League, in addition to the main competition of each federation in the other modalities. However, only the days of professional soccer championships will be held. The FPF made a statement to confirm this.

“For the knowledge of Ordinary Members, Clubs, Sports Societies and other interested parties, we inform that, in view of the existing public health context and the measures dictated by the Government through the publication of Resolution of the Council of Ministers no. 88-B / 2020, which defines special measures applicable to the municipalities of Felgueiras, Lousada and Paços de Ferreira in the context of the situation of calamity, and of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers n. 89-A / 2020, which determines the limitation of movement between the different municipalities of the continental territory in the period between 00:00 hours on October 30 and 06:00 hours on November 3, 2020, decides to change the next round of the events currently organized by the FPF.

To that extent, games scheduled on the dates mentioned above will not take place and the new dates will be indicated in due course.

The decision to suspend non-professional sports activities was reaffirmed by the Government to the sports federations this Thursday and the FPF asks for a better understanding of all of them in order to comply with it ”.

The modalities confirm

Almost simultaneously, also the federations of basketball, handball, volleyball and skating issued a statement, together with the FPF, to confirm the postponement of the games under their aegis:

We inform that, in view of the existing public health context and the measures that the Government promulgated through the publication of Council of Ministers Resolution no. 88-B / 2020, which defines special measures applicable to the municipalities of Felgueiras, Lousada and Paços de Ferreira in the area of ​​calamity, and of the Resolution of the Council of Ministers n. 89-A / 2020, which determines the limitation of movement between different municipalities of the continental territory in the period between 00:00 hours on October 30 and 06:00 hours on November 3, 2020, it is decided to change the next round of events currently organized by the 5 Federations.
