The Padre Américo Hospital, in Penafiel, belonging to the Tâmega e Sousa Hospital Center (CHTS), has already referred ten patients infected with covid-19 to the Fernando Pessoa School Hospital, in Gondomar.

According to a hospital source, the contact for the transfer of patients was established initially between the CHTS and the University, later it was expanded with the intervention of guardianship, through the Regional Health Administration of the North.

During the weekend, Carlos Alberto Silva, president of the Board of Directors of CHTS had stated that there have been no availability of individuals to receive patients with covid-19 and that the only hospital that received patients outside the SNS was that of the Fernando University Pessoa. .

It is recalled that Marta Temido admitted referring non-covid patients to the private sector who had their consultations, exams or surgeries canceled at the National Health Service (SNS) due to the evolution of the pandemic.

This decision was announced on the same day that Marta Temido reported that today, October 28, 2,634 patients with covid-19 and 44 in intensive care are expected to enter the room, exceeding the number of patients admitted to intensive care of the first wave.

This Tuesday, the president of the Portuguese Association for Private Hospitalization (APHP), Óscar Gaspar, confirmed the availability of private hospitals to respond to the covid-19 pandemic and other diseases and pointed out that both the Regional Health Administration (ARS) In the north, such as Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, the ARS had already requested a survey on the capacity of these private units to help the NHS fight COVID-19.
