The former Minister of Health and Medical, Ana Jorge, on Monday accused the private sector of not having participated, in an initial phase, in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, after the meeting at the Belém Palace with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

“There is no ideological issue, but, at an early stage, the private sector did not enter the fight against the pandemic,” emphasized the former government official. For Ana Jorge, “the involvement of the private and social sector has to be done at a non-Covid level, it has to be subcontracted and one cannot speak of diversion of professionals. What happened for many years was that the private sector came looking for professionals from the public ”.

Asked about the current panorama of the fight against the pandemic in Portugal, the former Minister of Health considered that “the situation is not out of control.” Ana Jorge considered that “it is important to strengthen public health capacity to monitor positive positions.”

“It is important to recognize that if we did not have the public health that we have, well organized, we would not have the control that we have until now. Comparing with other equivalent countries, we do not have an uncontrolled situation ”, defended Ana Jorge.

Portugal has a total of 121,133 confirmed cases of Covid-19, plus 2,447 compared to the previous day, reveals the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) published this Monday, October 26.
