Portugal has at least 72 municipalities with a “very high” risk of contagion with the new coronavirus, the newspaper “Expresso” advances this Saturday.

The weekly account says that despite the measures applied to Paços de Ferreira, Lousada and Felgueiras (where, among other conditions, citizens are obliged to stay at home), there are border counties that may deserve the attention of health authorities in the next days. taking into account the infection calculation made by “Expresso” from the epidemiological bulletins of the DGS.

Marta Temido was confronted at the press conference this Friday about the probability of extending the measures applied this Thursday to the municipalities of Felgueiras, Lousada and Paços de Ferreira, especially to the municipalities of the neighboring North region.

“Regarding the assessment of the epidemiological situation, we have counties that deserve greater concern and these are bordering counties with the objectives of this Thursday. The movement of people and geographic confluence are factors that increase risk, we are evaluating, ”said Marta Temido.

According to “Expresso”, according to calculations made from the DGS bulletins, the contiguous municipalities of Paredes or Penafiel, in addition to Bragança, Oporto or Lisbon, “are among the municipalities with the highest incidence between October 5 and 19 .

The Government decided this Thursday, in the Council of Ministers, that the municipalities of Felgueiras, Lousada and Paços de Ferreira will be subject to limitations as of 00:00 hours on October 23, as was previously the case with the 19 parishes of Lisbon, due to the evolution of the pandemic situation in these territories, announced the Minister of State and Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva

“For Felgueiras, Lousada and Paços de Ferreira, the duty to stay at home was approved with the exception of a set of activities similar to what had already happened in the past for the 19 parishes of Lisbon: working, attending school and other activities ”, began by said the ruler.

At the press conference on Thursday, Marta Temido justified this decision by the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants that are being detected especially in these municipalities, especially in the last 7 days combined with the speed of growth of the disease. “It was necessary to take additional measures to promote the reduction of contacts,” justified the Minister of Health.
