The Minister of Health said this Friday that the entire Northern region has risk maps in operation and evaluating the epidemiological situation.
“The entire North region already has risk maps and evaluation of the epidemiological situation. These risk maps are what guide our decision, “said Marta Temido at the press conference to update the information on the infection by the new coronavirus.
The minister explained that the risk maps, which reflect the incidence of new cases of covid-19 and the speed of growth of the disease, is a recent process that was foreseen in the autumn-winter health plan.
The official stressed that all the decisions taken in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, that is, in the municipalities of Amadora, Loures, Odivelas, Sintra and Lisbon, in June and July, were based on the analysis of risk maps.
However, the minister pointed out that this instrument should be used “with caution.”
“It can be a very important tool in the adoption of local and regional measures, it can help to define the limits of the areas where there is a greater transmission, but they have an interpretive impact on people. We must not forget that mapping an area with a color typology can have a negative effect on the way certain places look, ”warns Marta Temido.
The minister also said that risk maps “are an instrument”, but “not the only one for decision-making.”
To date, Portugal has 31 more deaths related to covid-19 and 2,899 confirmed cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate General of Health (DGS).
According to the bulletin published today, since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, Portugal has already registered 112,440 confirmed cases and 2,276 deaths.
