COVID-19. 2,899 more infected and 31 dead, the highest figure in six months (and only exceeded in nine days)

The bulletin of the General Directorate of Health, to which it refers on Thursday, reports more than 31 dead, 2,899 infected and 1,349 recovered. The general figures are as follows: 112,440 infected, 2,276 dead, 65,880 recovered.

Not so many people had died in 24 hours in six months, more precisely since April 24, when 34 deaths were announced. April was, by the way, the most dramatic in this segment since the pandemic began. Only on nine other occasions (between April 3 and 24) more than the 31 people declared died on Friday (+ 1.38% compared to the previous day):

Regarding new cases of contagion (2,899), an increase of 2.65% compared to the previous day, this is the second worst day of the pandemic, just after what was announced in Thursday’s bulletin: 3,270 (the most high daily infections recorded so far).

Hospitalizations in Portuguese hospitals also increased (53 more, to a total of 1,418). Never before have so many patients been hospitalized for Covid-19 infection in Portugal. However, there are two less occupied beds in the Intensive Care Units (198).

There are more than 1,519 active cases in the country, bringing the total to 44,284.

North represents 52.3% of new contagion cases

In the analysis by regions, the north of the country once again leads in the number of newspapers: 1,516 (+14 deaths). In Lisbon and the Tagus Valley there were 918 more infected (+9 deaths), in the Center region 364 infected (+5 deaths), in Alentejo 53 infected (+2 deaths), in the Algarve 38 infected (+1 death), in Madeira and the Azores, eight and two new infected, respectively.

In total, the capital region continues to lead in cases (51,313, +913 deaths), while the North leads in the count of deaths (1,001), in a universe of 46,391 contagion cases. These regions are followed by Centro (9,388 cases, 290 deaths), Algarve (2,373 cases, 24 deaths), Alentejo (2,272 cases, 33 deaths), Madeira (369 cases) and Azores (334 cases, 15 deaths).

The DGS bulletin reveals the cases of infection and the number of deaths by age group. Thus, the identified infections are distributed as follows:

0-9 years: 4,735 cases (+100)
10-19 years: 7,476 (+242)
20-29 years: 18.906 (+583)
30-39 years: 18,207 (+431)
40-49 years: 18,486 (+470)
50-59 years: 16,207 (+401)
60-69 years: 10,963 (+293)
70-79 years: 7,255 (+160)
+80 years: 10,039 (+213)
unknown: 166 cases

Most of the deaths registered in the last 24 hours correspond to patients over 80 years of age. Regarding the fatalities, the bulletin reveals the following panorama:
