The winners of the competition for the acquisition of road transport services in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) are already known. The presentation of the list took place at the Lisbon Metropolitan Council meeting on Wednesday.

The management of the public road transport service in the region will be guaranteed by TML – Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa, an entity 100% managed by AML and which will also be in charge of the ticketing and public information services, the preparation of studies and plans, and the implementation of accessibility, transportation and mobility policies, as read in the ALD press release.

Thus, lot one, which includes the municipalities of Amadora, Cascais, Oeiras and Sintra, will be served by a group led by Scotturb that includes Vialagus; lot two, which includes Mafra, Loures, Odivelas and Vila Franca de Xira, will be operated by Rodoviária de Lisboa; lot three, which serves Almada, Seixal and Sesimbra, will be in charge of Transportes Sul do Tejo (TST); In the fourth and last batch, which includes Alcochete, Moita, Palmela and Setúbal, the best proposal was from Next Continental Holding, which includes Transvia and the transport company Luísa Todi.

AML highlights that the average age of the concessionary fleets for each of the lots is less than a year, in addition to the fact that the amount to be paid per vehicle / kilometer was less than initially expected.

Another aspect to highlight is the increase of around 40% in the road transport service in a network made up of some 600 lines, which will configure a more complete, more environmentally sustainable, younger and more user-focused offer.
