Covid-19: 3,270 new infected in Portugal. Northern region with 1954 infections in 24 hours

The bulletin of the General Health Directorate reveals that the country added more 3,270 cases this Thursday (+735 than the previous day) – the data refer to Wednesday. Portugal reaches 1,365 hospitalizations, 200 of which are in Intensive Care Units.

The North region was again the most affected by the new infections (+1,954). There are currently 42,765 active cases, 1,961 more than in Wednesday’s bulletin, which also represents a peak since April 10, when the increase was 1,462.

The 3,270 new infections identified are the worst day since the pandemic began in Portugal in March. The values ​​thus exceed what happened on October 21 and 16, when the DGS notified 2,535 and 2,608 cases, respectively.

In the last 24 hours, 16 deaths were registered in the country by covid-19: seven in the North, six in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, two in the Center and one in the Alentejo.

Equally alarming news comes from hospitalizations: there are 93 more occupied beds in Portuguese hospitals, an increase of 7.31% over the previous day. It’s the biggest jump since April 16, when the balance between hospital arrivals and departures increased by 102. The total number of hospitalizations is now 1,365, the highest level in the pandemic.

As for the ICUs, Portugal once again reached the two hundred (200) mark, something that had not been seen since April 23, when there were 204 people in those units. In the last 24 hours, there was an increase of 13 patients in ICUs, which also translates into the largest increase since mid-April, when on April 16 there were another 21 beds occupied.

North represents 59.8% of new cases

The North, a region in which experts forecast two thousand infected daily this week (without ruling out the possibility of reaching four thousand and next week), adds as we have seen more than 1,954 cases. Lisbon and the Tagus Valley had 936 infected, the Central 281, Alentejo 56, Algarve 28, Madeira 12 and Azores 3 regions.

In absolute numbers, counted since March, the accounts look like this: Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (50,395 cases | 904 deaths), North (44,875 | 987), Center (9,024 | 285), Algarve (2,335 | 23), Alentejo ( 2,219 | 31), Madeira (361) and Azores (332 | 15).

The DGS bulletin reveals the cases of infection and the number of deaths by age group. Thus, the identified infections are distributed as follows:

0-9 years: 4,635 (+143)
10-19 years: 7,234 (+299)
20-29 years: 18,323 (+576)
30-39 years: 17,776 (+486)
40-49 years: 18,016 (+556)
50-59 years: 15,806 (+487)
60-69 years: 10,670 (+282)

Most of the deaths registered in the last 24 hours correspond to patients over 80 years of age. Regarding the fatalities, the bulletin reveals the following panorama:
