This Thursday, the PSD modified the law that imposes the mandatory use of masks in the street, eliminating the possibility that they are replaced by visors and shortening the validity period of the measure from four to three months, renewable.

The diploma that will make the use of masks mandatory in public spaces will be voted on on Friday and the PSD will request simultaneous voting in general, specialty and global final, said the vice president of the bench Carlos Peixoto.

According to Carlos Peixoto, the changes introduced in the text, which entered Parliament this Thursday, were “previously transmitted” to the PS and have the agreement of the Socialists, have the guaranteed approval of the diploma with the favorable votes of the two largest seats.

Among the changes in the delivered text, There is also a new exception to dispense with the use of masks in public spaces. “Provided that the physical distance recommended by the health authorities is impractical”: they are not necessary “in relation to people who are part of the same household, when they are not close to third parties”.

The remaining exceptions remain the same, with the diploma determining that this obligation can be waived -which applies to people over 10 years old- “by presenting a medical certificate of multipurpose disability or medical statement, in the case of people with cognitive disabilities, developmental disorders psychic “or even” medical statement that the clinical condition of the person is not compatible with the use of masks “.

Nor is the use of a mask mandatory when “it is incompatible with the nature of the activities carried out by people.”

Inspection, the PSD simplifies the formulation of the text, saying that “it corresponds to the security forces and the municipal police”, when in the initial version it was detailed that it corresponded to “the Republican National Guard, the Public Security Police, the Police Maritime and the Municipal Police “. “.

The new diploma explains that the mandatory use of a mask is “exceptional” and removes, in relation to the first text, the reference to visors as an alternative to the use of masks.

“The provisions of this law are valid for 90 days, counted from the day after its publication, without prejudice to its eventual renewal,” says the new version of the diploma, which previously spoke in 120 days.

The sanctioning regime remains unchanged, what predicts That failure to use a mask constitutes an offense, punishable by a fine of between 100 and 500 euros.

The PSD initiative arose from the bill presented by the Government last week, which sought to make the use of a mask and the StayAway Covid computer application mandatory.

After the general criticism from the parties – including the PS – for the obligation to use the “app” announced months ago as a volunteer, the president of the PSD, Rui Rio, announced the intention of the Social Democrats to present a project identical to that of the Government. but only for the part of the masks, which was made last Friday.

In an interview with TVI this Monday, Prime Minister António Costa announced that the Government “would not agree” with the assessment of his diploma, leaving only the “consensual” proposal of the PSD on the imposition of the mask on the street.
