More than 20,000 cars at full speed in the campaign ″ Travel slowly ″

More than 20 thousand cars were detected by high-speed radars during the “Travel without hurry” campaign, which took place last week and recorded more than 2,100 traffic accidents.

According to the balance of the campaign, under the responsibility of the National Highway Safety Authority (ANSR), the Republican National Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP), more than two million vehicles were monitored in speed control by radar (2,509,675), 85% of which by SINCRO – National Speed ​​Control System.

Of the vehicles inspected, 20,393 were circulating at high speed, of which 11,151 were detected by the security forces’ radars and 9242 by the ANSR, according to the joint statement of the three entities.

The road safety campaign “Travel without hurry”, which ran from October 13 to 19, aimed to warn about the risks of speeding, one of the main causes of traffic accidents.

In the same period, 2,144 accidents were recorded, resulting in nine deaths, 30 serious injuries and 586 minor injuries.

As part of the 2020 National Inspection Plan, the campaign was disseminated on digital media and through five ANSR awareness actions, carried out simultaneously with the inspection operations carried out by GNR and PSP in Porto, Braga, Leiria, Santarém and Lisbon.
