In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) announced the approach and the effects of the Bárbara depression that It will be felt from Monday afternoon to the end of Tuesday.
“The effects of this depression in the continental territory will be felt fundamentally by the increase in the intensity of the wind from the afternoon of October 19, extending until the end of October 20, with gusts of up to 100 km / h and up to 130 km / h in the highlands “, you can read in the document.
According to the IPMA, the depression is associated with “a frontal system of moderate to strong activity, which will approach mainland Portugal from the afternoon of the 19th and will cross the entire territory during the 20th, also giving rise to rainfall. sometimes strong and persistent, especially between the early afternoon of the 19th and the end of the 20th.
On Tuesday a decrease in the maximum temperature is expected, which will vary approximately between 15 and 23 degrees Celsius.
According to the IPMA, a increased sea turmoil, especially on the coast of the southern region, from Monday afternoon to the end of Tuesday, where the significant height of the waves can reach 3.5 meters from the southwest.
In this way, the IPMA placed the 18 districts of mainland Portugal under yellow warning due to the forecast of rains, sometimes strong and persistent, and also due to the wind.
