The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced in Sunday’s daily bulletin that there are 19 more deaths and 1,856 new cases of Covid-19 in Portugal.

The death toll went from 2,162 to 2,181, 19 more than on Saturday and the number of infected went from 98,055 to 99,911 in just 24 hours.

54,851 contacts remain under surveillance, 2,308 more than on Saturday.

Data released today reveal even more 1,081 recovered cases, for a total of 59,000.

Active cases, meanwhile, amounted to 38,730, an increase of 756 over the previous day.

By region, the North has 39,449 confirmed cases, 1,168 more than on Saturday and 959 deaths, plus nine.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, on the other hand, have 385 more confirmed cases for a total of 47,412 and 10 more deaths, representing 881.

The Center registers 231 cases more than 8,214 and deaths remain unchanged at 277.

The Alentejo has 1,991 confirmed cases, that is, a progression of 35 cases compared to Saturday, and deaths remain unchanged compared to Saturday (27).

The Algarve region has reported 2,199 cases today, 28 more than Saturday, and deaths were unchanged at 22.

Madeira remains unrecorded deaths and has eight more confirmed cases for 328, while Azores added another case to the confirmed list, adding 318, and the number of deaths has not changed, continuing at 15.

In turn, 1,086 people are hospitalized, 72 more than on Saturday.

155 patients were hospitalized in the intensive care units, seven more than the previous day.

Of the total confirmed cases, 54,427 are women and 45,484 men.

In Portugal, the new coronavirus has already killed 1,100 men and 1,081 women.

Intensive care beds with 70% occupancy in the north

The occupancy of beds dedicated to covid-19 in northern hospitals reached 61% in the middle of this week, in the Valencia ward and 70% in the case of intensive care, according to the Regional Health Administration.

In a written response sent to Lusa, the Northern Regional Health Administration (ARS-N) said that hospitals in the region have 464 nursing beds dedicated to covid-19, of which 285 were occupied on Wednesday (approximately 61% ).

In the Intensive Care Units (ICU), of the 81 beds assigned to the disease, 57 were occupied the same day, which corresponds to an occupation close to 70%.

According to ARS-N, in this region the installed capacity for all pathologies is 5,489 nursing beds and 308 intensive care beds, in a total of 16 health facilities (nine hospitals, four hospitals and three local health units) .
