[ad_1]

Samsung has in its Galaxy Note line what is most productive in the smartphone segment. AS Pen is the key to this and, with each new version, it is more precise in the functions that it allows to do and has more associated functions. This year, the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Note20 brought something new “ultra” and that we are going to talk about.

If you are looking for a top smartphone, after a few weeks of testing, we leave you 5 reasons to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra.

Are you looking for a top of the range? 5 reasons to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra

General specifications

The Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra is presented to the market with a 6.9 ″ inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, with a resolution of 3088 x 1440 pixels (QuadHD +). It comes equipped with the Exynos 990 (7 nm +) processor, developed by Samsung and which guarantees the excellent performance to which we are already used. Also, the GPU is a Mali-G77 MP11.

In Portugal, therefore, the 5G version is available, in the colors Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black, with 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage, with 12 GB of RAM.

The main camera consists of three cameras, one with 108 MP and two with 12 MP. It has autofocus, LED flash, optical zoom up to 5 times and digital zoom up to 50 times. Plus, it still records 8K video. The front camera is 10 MP.

In summary:

    Frontal camera:
    • 10 MP, f / 2.2, 26mm (wide), 1 / 3.2 ″, 1.22µm, dual-pixel PDAF
    • Video: 4K @ 30 / 60fps, 1080p @ 30fps
    Rear camera:
    • 108 MP, f / 1.8, 26mm (wide), 1 / 1.33 ″, 0.8µm, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS
    • 12 MP, f / 3.0, 120mm periscope / telephoto, 1.0 µm, PDAF, OIS, up to 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom
    • 12 MP, f / 2.2, 120˚, 13mm (ultrawide), 1 / 2.55 ″, 1.4µm
    • Video: 8K @ 24fps, 4K @ 30 / 60fps

The Note20 Ultra is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac / 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. Also noteworthy is the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, support for Samsung Wireless DeX and stereo sound.

As for autonomy, once again, the large battery and the optimized software guarantee more than one day of use. The battery, in particular, is 4500 mAh and supports fast charging at 25 W, wireless charging at 15 W and reverse charging at 4.5 W.

AS Pen plays a key role in this smartphone, thus allowing smooth writing on the 102 Hz screen. It comes with Bluetooth that allows it to be a Note controller.

Finally, it has dimensions of 164.8 x 77.2 x 8.1 mm and weighs 208g. The structure is made of metal and both the front and the back have crystals with Gorilla Glass Victus protection. It should be noted that the Note20, unlike the Ultra version, has a plastic rear, which on a superior smartphone is strange.

5 reasons to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra

1. Productivity with the S Pen

Without a doubt, the big factor that distinguishes the Note from the rest of the best smartphones is its S Pen and the productivity it confers, especially for some specific users.

We are talking about a virtual pen that writes as if it were a normal pen. More pressure, thicker lines, lighter and finer lines. The display with a 120Hz refresh rate makes that feeling even more apparent.

Of course, the fact that it is a very fine object means that getting used to writing may take some time. But it gets better.

AS Pen connects to smartphone via Bluetooth, requiring only a quick initial setup. Since it offers remote control functions, it also has a battery that charges every time it is connected to the Galaxy Note20.

Some features associated with the S Pen:
  • Screen off note: Even without unlocking your smartphone, you can still take notes. To do this, simply remove the pen, write, and save. Everything will be in Samsung Notes.
  • Screen writing: A screenshot is made where it is possible to add notes absolutely quickly.
  • From calligraphy to text: You can quickly write with the S Pen and transfer all your notes to digital format.
  • PENUP: For artists, there is a community platform where the various creations designed with the pen of the smartphone can be shared.
  • RA squiggles: For those who like to have fun sharing on social media, doodles based on augmented reality will be very useful. While recording a video, you can add items to your virtual world.
  • Gesture control: AS Pen allows you to perform a series of actions, such as going back, returning to the previous menu, taking photos, taking screenshots and writing on the screen, with just a few gestures and a click on the button simultaneously.

2. Photographic quality

Today, brands do not know what to do with their smartphone cameras. The quality of top-notch equipment is so high for existing physical limitations that it creates functionality that is neither very useful nor of such high quality. I speak, in particular, of infinite zooms. It is true that they value the smartphone, but that is not what I want to emphasize.

It is important to highlight the quality of the photographs using the main camera, in the most varied light environments, the ultra-wide angle camera itself with great detail, the portraits with a good background highlight, and even the photographs taken with the optical zoom.

The rear camera has the following configuration:

  • 108 MP, f / 1.8, 26mm (wide), 1 / 1.33 ″, 0.8µm, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS
  • 12 MP, f / 3.0, 120mm periscope / telephoto, 1.0 µm, PDAF, OIS, up to 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom
  • 12 MP, f / 2.2, 120˚, 13mm (ultrawide), 1 / 2.55 ″, 1.4µm
  • Video: 8K @ 24fps, 4K @ 30 / 60fps

In video, keep in mind that it records at 8K at 24 fps and 4K at 60 fps. 8K recording is still not very practical, but it is an important step to enter the new era of multimedia content.

For content creators, whether for their own platforms or for third-party companies, the smartphone may even be the only work tool, since it also offers interesting editing functions and, of course, the most advanced applications dedicated to this task.

We have the ability to capture photos in maximum quality in JPEG and RAW so that we can work on them.

The front camera also offers excellent quality with its 10 MP.

3. Battery and autonomy of the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra's battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh and charges at 25W, with the charger provided inside the box. Although it does not charge 50% in half an hour as the brand promises, it charges around 45%, which is a very acceptable value for a battery of this capacity.

To fully charge, we logged approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, from a completely discharged battery.

A small comparison brings us to the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, which had a 5000 mAh battery with a 45W load (although the supplied charger was 25W).

It is important to know how it behaves in terms of autonomy. In general, I always managed to use it for a day and a half. This autonomy decreases, of course, the days when the camera was used more or there was more work to manage remotely. However, there was no situation where it had not lasted a whole day.

Looking for a top of the range? 5 reasons to buy the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra - battery

Since the last generation of Galaxy S20 smartphones, we have seen that Samsung batteries offer better performance, something that users of the brand demand for a long time.

But in terms of battery, we must also highlight its ability to charge wirelessly at 15 W and also the possibility of charging other devices at 4.5 W. For accessories, such as the Galaxy Buds Live that we have also tested here, this is a Very relevant possibility.

4. Performance

The way the smartphone performs its tasks is one of the most important aspects to consider. In the upper segment, we have not found a model that does not meet this requirement for a long time and the Note 20 Ultra is no exception.

As already mentioned, it comes equipped with the Exynos 990 (7 nm +) processor, developed by Samsung and brings a GPU is a Mali-G77 MP11. In Portugal, the 5G version is available with 256GB or 512GB of internal storage, with 12GB of RAM.

Furthermore, it comes equipped with Android 10, optimized by the One UI 2.5 user interface.

The most demanding tasks, such as games or editing photos and videos, are carried out with great fluidity. But then all the multimedia experience, document editing, conversation and interaction with the S Pen are aspects to value.

Despite being an article that focuses more on the positive aspects of the smartphone, it is impossible to mention that it is overheated ... nothing that a good Samsung smartphone user is not used to.

5. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra screen

Finally, the highlight goes to the screen. We are facing the same technology already presented with the S20 Ultra. It is therefore a 6.9-inch screen, with 2X Dynamic AMOLED technology. It offers HDR + and Always-on Display and has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, when set to FullHD + resolution. On QuadHD +, the refresh rate is the usual 60Hz.

The high refresh rate makes the movements and animations on the screen appear even more fluid and realistic. For many, this may not even be such a noticeable difference. But in a gaming environment or even watching high-resolution movies, the difference is truly remarkable.

Also, this feature becomes even more relevant when writing on the screen with the S Pen. In fact, there is incredible fluidity.

This screen still occupies about 91.7% of the front panel, a bit more than the normal version. In the photos, you can see where the Note20 Ultra beats the Note20.

In addition to the Ultra having a curved finish on the sides, the frame around the camera is smaller.

Differences between the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Note20

Both models come with the same processor, GPU, and the same interface. Thus, despite the fact that the Ultra model has 12 GB of RAM and the Note20 8 GB, the performance differences were not noticed during the different tests carried out in Pplware. Even in the benchmark test conducted at Antutu, the point difference was negligible. In particular, Note20 reached 509 thousand points and Note20 Ultra 512 thousand points.

The main camera of the Galaxy Note20 is 12 MP with aperture f / 1.8 and does not have a periscope camera. Instead, it has a 64 MP telephoto camera with f / 2.0 aperture and optical zoom of up to 3 times.

Differences between the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra and the Samsung Galaxy Note20

Another difference is related to the battery that has 4300 mAh, but with the same characteristics as the Note20 Ultra. This lower capacity battery does not offer less autonomy, especially since we have a smaller screen. It should be noted that the screen is 6.7 ″ with Super AMOLED +, FullHD technology and, in this case, it does not have a refresh rate of 120 Hz. Therefore, 1 to 2 days of use without having to go to the charger during the day, they are guaranteed.

As already mentioned, the Note20, one of the best in the range, has a plastic back, however this does not detract from the refinement of the smartphone.

Pricing and availability
