João Almeida’s dream continues on the Tour of Italy. The Portuguese was this Friday the second to cross the finish line in the 13th stage, only surpassed by the Italian Diego Ulissi. With that, he earned a 6-second bonus and increased his lead in the overall ranking.
The young Portuguese from Deceuninck-QuickStep launched pique final at the finish line, but he ended without a chance against the rhythm of Diego Ulissi, who celebrated his second victory in this edition of the Giro.
Second, after analyzing the Final photo, João Almeida beat Austrian Patrick Konrad (BORA-hansgrohe). Hence, he won the bonus, increasing the lead in the overall lead to 40 seconds over runner-up Dutch Wilco Kelderman (Sunweb), while Spaniard Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-McLaren) is in third place, 49 seconds.
Rúben Guerreiro was 14th on the stage, with the same time as the winner, climbing three places to 26th, at 34m16, and keeping the blue jersey.
For this Saturday, the squad will have an individual time trial of 34.1 kilometers, between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.
