Portugal today registered 21 deaths related to the new coronavirus, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS), returning to daily values ​​that had not been observed since April.

According to official data, Portugal registered 37 deaths on August 3, the highest daily number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

The second highest number (35) occurred in three days, also in April.

As of March 30, there are 21 dead, the same number as today.

During the month of April, the number of deaths always remained above 20, a figure that began to decrease as of May 5.

The first death was on March 16, and the next day there were none, but since then there have always been deaths, except for August 3.

Of the total deaths registered today, 10 occurred in the North, nine in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo and two in the Central region.

Since the start of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 2,149 deaths and 95,902 cases of infection, with 37,697 active cases, 1,602 more than on Thursday.

The epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) reports that Portugal today has 2,608 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, the highest daily value since the start of the covid-19 pandemic.

It is the third consecutive day that Portugal has more than two thousand new cases, after 2,072 registered on Wednesday and 2,101 on Thursday.

Health officials have 51,784 contacts under surveillance, 183 more than on Thursday.

In the last 24 hours, 985 patients have recovered, a total of 56,066 since the start of the pandemic.

The North region was where in the last 24 hours more new infections were registered, with 1,350 cases, totaling 37,157 and 944 deaths.

In the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, 725 new cases of infection were reported, with 46,246 cases and 866 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

In the Central region there were 323 more cases, which represented 7,834 infections and 277 deaths.

In Alentejo, another 150 new cases of covid-19 were registered, for a total of 1,914, with a total of 26 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The Algarve region today reported 44 more new cases of infection, for a total of 2,124 cases and 21 deaths.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, four more new cases were registered, adding 310 detected infections and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Madeira registered 12 new cases in the last 24 hours, representing 317 infections, with no deaths to date.

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years. The age group between 40 and 49 is the one with the highest value.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than one million ninety-three thousand deaths and more than 38.5 million cases of contagion worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.

After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
