The presidential candidate Ana Gomes appealed for the disapproval by the Assembly of the Republic of the bill that aims to make the use of the mobile phone application Stayaway Covid mandatory, considering the intention of the Government of António Costa to contain unconstitutional the progression of the pandemic, in a legislative initiative that also provides for the mandatory use of a mask on public roads when close to other people.

“In addition to the violation of privacy in a country where the National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD) has no teeth, the ineffectiveness and cost-benefit analysis, would amount to enshrine discrimination against the most vulnerable poor and elderly”, wrote the former MEP. PS, referring to that installing the application implies that the user has a smartphone, and some models with less up-to-date operating systems will not allow installation either.

The bill announced by Prime Minister António Costa this Wednesday is not yet available on the website of the Assembly of the Republic, but according to Lusa, the use of the Stayaway Covid “in a work context or similar, school and academic” passes to be mandatory. If the diploma is approved by the deputies next week, a fine of up to 500 euros will be imposed on those who do not use it, although the caveat is that this article applies to “equipment owners” who allow its use.
