What changes from today with the state of disaster

To this day, the continental territory of Portugal is in a state of calamity, and the Government can adopt, “whenever necessary” measures that are justified to contain the pandemic, as Prime Minister Antnio Costa said yesterday, at the end of the Council of Ministers.

These are the eight measures that come into force this Thursday with the aim of controlling the pandemic:

one) The level of alert goes from a contingency situation to a state of calamity throughout the continental national territory, with the Government being able to adopt, when necessary, the measures that are justified to contain the pandemic, from restrictions on movement to other measures. that are given in a concrete and local way. be justified;

two) Since midnight, meetings on public roads with more than five people are no longer possible. This limitation applies to other spaces for public use of a commercial nature or in restoration;

3) Family events (such as weddings, baptisms and others) that are scheduled starting today, October 14, are limited to a maximum of 50 participants, all of whom must comply with rules of physical exclusion and individual protection such as wearing a mask;

4) In academic establishments, that is, in universities and politicians, all academic celebrations and activities of an academic or scientific nature are prohibited, such as reception ceremonies for first-year students and other types of celebrations that involve social gatherings, which must be avoided at all times. the cost of not repeating circumstances that have already occurred with contamination in events of this nature;

5) The Security Forces and Bodies and ASAE will reinforce enforcement actions to comply with this regulation, both in the public sector and in commercial and restaurant establishments;

6) Increase of up to 10,000 euros in fines applicable to legal entities, in particular commercial and restaurant establishments, that do not ensure scrupulous compliance with current regulations on auction and removal that must be ensured within said establishments;

7) The Government “strongly recommends” to all citizens the use of a community mask on the public route and the use of the Stayaway Covid application and communication through the application whenever there is a positive test.

8) The Government will also present a legislative proposal, with an urgent procedure, to impose the obligation to wear the mask in public (when there are more people) and to use the Stayaway Covid application in a school, professional context. and academic, in the Armed Forces, in the Security Forces and in the Public Administration as a whole.
