This Tuesday Apple presented the new iPhone 12, in one of the most important launches of the brand, with design changes, new models of different sizes -one of them is mini- and the inclusion of 5G.

iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max

In addition to the Mini, the iPhone 12 line is completed with two bets with “more noble materials”, that is, there will also be a higher price to follow.

The 12 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen and the Pro Max with 6.7-inch, the largest screen ever used on an iPhone.

As a visual differentiation, these Pro models will have different colors and finishes.

The iPhone Pro will have some differences in terms of cameras compared to the ‘normal’ model and the iPhone Mini.

The ultra-wide camera on the Pro models not only has a larger sensor but also a 1.6 aperture; Apple indicates that this will allow up to 87% more light in darker environments.

iPhone 12 mini. Or iPhone baby

Unsurprisingly, there is now a new iPhone 12 mini, smaller than usual at Apple. “It is the smallest 5G smartphone in the world”, it is announced.

The new screen measures just 5.4 inches (smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro and has been the usual size since the iPhone since 6) and has no button underneath and maintains the notch appearance of more current models.

The price of the 12 mini is 699 dollars and that of the 12. In Portugal it should be a little more in euros.

The iPhone 12 mini starts at 829 euros

There are already official prices in Portugal on the Apple website. Pre-orders for the new iPhone 12 (€ 919) and 12 Pro (€ 1,179) are available on Friday, October 16 and the model is available on October 23.

The iPhone 12 mini (€ 829) and the 12 Pro Max (€ 1,279) can be reserved on November 6 and arrive on November 13.

The biggest price disappointment for Portugal is the mini model, with a 5.4-inch screen, which is much more expensive than advertised in the US: it starts at 829 euros (in the US it’s $ 699 ) and only has 64GB of storage.

Old models with low prices

As always, when Apple introduces new equipment, a price reduction is made on existing models.

Thus, the iPhone SE will become the cheapest model in the line, starting at $ 399. The iPhone 11, for example, now has a base price of $ 599.

LiDAR scanner

At a time dedicated to LiDAR technology, the Pro models will feature such a scanner. In very general lines, it is explained that this technology takes into account the way in which light reflects off objects.

This scanner allows you to do several things, from mapping a room to improving the ability to focus in dimmer environments.

Apple ensures that the combination of cameras with this scanner will allow “access to a new world of possibilities in the field of augmented reality.”

HDR video recording comes to iPhone for the first time

HDR video recording is now available. There are 12 million colors captured and a capacity that Apple promises to be at a professional level. The 12 Pro will be the first camera with Dolby Vision HDR, giving more detail in every frame in 4K and 60fps. And Dolby Vision video editing is available on the new model.

Apple ProRAW is a new tool to give professional photographers more editing power.

No headphones or chargers for “environmental issues”

Apple’s next phones will hit the consumer without a headset or charger in the box. The company argues that these are “environmental issues.” Removing these accessories makes boxes lighter – Jackson argues that a pallet of products “will be up to 70% lighter.”

By reducing the weight, Apple expects a significant reduction in carbon emissions in logistics.

MagSafe

It is a system to charge the iPhone wirelessly that includes new covers that allow you to “stick” to the iPhone using magnets, to remove and easily.

Ultra-wide camera upgrade and night mode

Apple indicates that the new iPhone cameras, which include an Ultra Wide camera, will perform better even in dark environments. The technology explains that the night mode “is even better” due to the novelties in the computational area. The possibility of doing time-lapse in night mode is another novelty.

The night mode update will come to the different models of the iPhone line.

5G experience: system turns 5G off when not needed

It has more 5G bands available than any other smartphone, it is indicated, to work on more networks. There is a software associated with 5G, called Smart Data Mode: “When the iPhone does not need 5G speeds, it goes back to 4G to save battery”.

The idea is to keep call quality, battery saving, and better performance when you need 5G.

iPhone 12 with new design. They all come with 5G

New design, with a straighter metallic structure around the edges, reminiscent of the old iPhone 5. It is 11% thinner and 15% lighter. The OLED screen has 2 times more pixels than the iPhone 11.

Available in various colors. The new screen material is called Ceramic Shield, in which Apple promises to make the screen more resistant.

You have 4 times more chances of surviving if you fall, it is indicated.

Intercom: a way to communicate between devices

Apple demonstrated a feature called Intercom, where users can record messages that are streamed to other devices in the same home: a smartwatch, AirPods, or even other speakers. Once again, technology reinforces the idea of a product ecosystem.

The HomePod Mini will be available for $ 99, with pre-orders starting November 6. It remains to be seen if Portugal is on the availability list for this product and what the final price will be.

HomePod Mini Smart Speaker

The Smart HomePod Mini speaker is smaller. Like HomePod, the Siri digital assistant is built in here too.

The company says that it is committed to “sound quality”, “intelligence” and “security and privacy”.
