Cristiano Ronaldo is infected with Covid-19. The 35-year-old Portuguese international tested positive for the disease and will miss Wednesday’s game against Sweden, counting for the group stage of the Nations League.

Ronaldo is the third player from Portugal to be infected with the new coronavirus, after José Fonte and Anthony Lopes, with the three players withdrawn from the selection phase. The Ronaldo case meant the rescheduling of the last training session prior to the duel with the Swedes for 5:00 p.m. (initially it was scheduled for 11:00 a.m.) and also for the previous press conference of coach Fernando Santos, which will be at 7:00 p.m. (it was scheduled until 10:15 am).

FPF statement

Cristiano Ronaldo was released from the job of the National Team after a positive test for COVID-19, so he will not face Sweden.

The Portuguese international is doing well, without symptoms and isolated.

After the positive case, the rest of the players underwent new tests this Tuesday morning, all with negative results, and they are at the disposal of Fernando Santos to train this afternoon, in the Ciudad del Fútbol.

The match, counting for the Nations League qualifying phase, is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:45 pm in Alvalade.
