The bill is part of the State Budget for 2021 that was delivered to parliament today.

DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) arrived in Portugal in October 2008, in an experimental broadcast, using the Palmela relay. After overcoming various technological and market barriers, DTT reached the Portuguese in 2012 and today seven channels are available: RTP 1, RTP 2, RTP 3, RTP Memória, SIC, TVI and Canal Parliament ... but two are missing.

According to the proposed law that is part of the State Budgets for 2021, the Government intends to "allocate the two channels available in the offer" of DTT.

It should be remembered that on July 21, the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca had mentioned that the Government intended to resume the process of assigning two television channels on DTT (free platform). It should also be remembered that, on June 23, 2016, the Council of Ministers approved the expansion of the DTT offer in Portugal, which provided for two RTP channels without advertising -RTP3 and RTP Memória- and another two reserved for individuals. last award by call for bids.
