The mayor of Guimarães, Domingos Bragança, admitted on Monday that the representation of a show in the municipality with about a thousand people “gave a signal that contradicts all the recent discourse” of the municipality in relation to covid-19.

Quoted in a statement, Domingos Bragança added that the entire communication effort of the municipality to prevent covid-19 “cannot be compromised by cultural or other events, which can bring together a large number of people.”

Speaking at the end of the executive meeting, the mayor thus justified the decision, announced on Sunday, to suspend the holding of cultural events in the municipality’s facilities until the Civil Protection meeting, which will take place on Tuesday.

“I want to listen to the health delegates on the subject, as well as those responsible for the other entities, since the situation we are experiencing in the municipality of Guimarães may require the adoption of more restrictive measures,” he said.
