In the State Budget for 2020, free childcare included children whose family income was in the first step, but parents whose income was in the second step, starting with the second child, could also have access. For 2021, the State Budget proposal extends this right to all children of the second level of the IRS, advances the newspaper “Public”.
Currently, all families that earn up to 7,112 euros per year are included in the first step and in the second, those that earn up to 10,732 euros per year. This measure will cover another 15 thousand children and will have an impact of more than 11 million euros.
As has been the case in previous years, free child care was one of the PCP’s requirements in the negotiations on the State Budget for 2021, which, since last year, insists that 25,000 new places are needed in public day care centers. .
In the first draft of the State Budget for 2020, the Government proposed to recreate the nursery supplement for the second child, starting with the 2020/2021 academic year, assigning families “a guaranteed and universal value, which shares the price of the second child “, a measure that had an estimated financial impact of 30 million euros. The PCP considered this as “a very small step” and, during the discussion phase of the document especially in the Assembly of the Republic, the Government and the PCP negotiated a greater scope of the measure. This negotiation led to the nurseries becoming completely free for the children of couples with income from the first step, right after the first child. This measure is now extended until 2021.
