The campaign, which runs until Monday, October 19, aims to warn about the risks of speeding, which is one of the main causes of road accidents.

“Viagem sem Pressa” will have awareness actions by ANSR, inspection operations carried out by GNR and PSP (with special focus on compliance with the rules of the road code and complementary legislation related to speed), and 24/7 inspection by ANSR through its radar network (SINCRO).

Awareness-raising actions will be carried out simultaneously with inspection operations in the following places:

· Day 13 – Av. Marechal Gomes da Costa, Porto;

· Day 14 – IN 14 Arnoso Santa Maria, Braga;

· Day 15 – Av. Comunidade Europeu, Leiria;

· Day 16 – EN 119, Biscainho, Santarém;

· Day 19 – A1 tolls for Alverca and Av. Infante D. Henrique – Sta. Apolónia, Lisbon.

ANSR, GNR and PSP remind us that speed limits and moderation rules exist for the protection of all, especially the most vulnerable, so compliance is vital: “Speed is the main cause of a third of all fatal accidents ”.

The entities also state that “The faster we drive, the less time we have to immobilize the vehicle, when something unexpected happens” and that “In a 10 km trip, increasing the speed from 45 to 50 km / hour only allows you to gain 1 minute and 20 seconds, however, a small difference in speed can make the difference between life and death. “

The National Inspection Plan, as part of the National Strategic Plan for Road Safety – PENSE 2020, which aims to “Make Road Safety a priority for all Portuguese people”, provides for awareness-raising campaigns simultaneously with inspection operations . in locations where violations regularly occur that pose a higher risk of accidents occurring.

It is important to note that traffic accidents are not fatalities and their most serious consequences can be avoided by adopting adequate speeds and respecting legal limits.
