A 78-year-old man died and an off-duty PSP agent was injured in a collision between two cars this Saturday on the EN365 in Golegã. The agent refused to submit to the alcohol test and was arrested for disobedience by the GNR.

The alert for the event was given at 5:56 p.m., with four vehicles and 11 operatives from the Entroncamento and Pernes Voluntary Firefighters, as well as the Santarém Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) were transferred to the site.

The authorities declared death at the scene, where the other victim, the off-duty police officer, received medical assistance. In a statement, the PSP reveals that “it initiated the respective disciplinary process and determined, immediately, the application of the preventive measure of preventive suspension of functions” to the agent, who rejected the breathalyzer test.

GNR took care of the incident steps, while the road was cut in both directions to clear the way and clear evidence.

“The PSP regrets what happened, expresses its condolences for another death on the road and publicly presents its condolences to the family and friends of the victim,” says the statement sent to the newsroom tonight.
