“We are all aware that society, families, companies, cannot again bear the cost of a global shutdown. And these “new weapons” can be summarized as “more responsibility and less legal imposition” – “individual” responsibility that implies the use of a mask, guaranteeing social distance and also installing the StayAway-Covid application on “smartphones”. António Costa reiterated , emphasizing once again that it is anonymous and that it is “essential” to use it to face this “very strong new wave” that exists not only in Portugal, but also in other countries.
The Spanish Pedro Sánchez also considered that the pandemic is having a “worrying” evolution throughout the European continent, not only in Spain and Portugal, but also in countries such as France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, among others.
Both one political leader and the other indicated that “it is not justified” to consider a new border closure. Pedro Sánchez stressed that what politicians want “is to give a common response. “Closing borders is not something we are contemplating at the moment. Any decision-making will have to be homogeneous and shared with Portugal and with other countries, ”said the Spaniard.
