Rescova, who was governor of Luanda until May 26, was admitted to the Girassol clinic, after being transferred from the province of Uíge to Luanda in an emergency.

The politician was in charge of the GPL between January 2, 2019, when he replaced Adriano Mendes de Carvalho. He was exonerated by the President of the Republic in May 2020, who elected Joana Lina to govern the most populated province of the country and that same day he was appointed Governor of Uíge.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, has already reacted, expressing his “deep consternation” at the death, tonight, of Sérgio Luther Rescova.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family of the loser, on my behalf, on behalf of my family and the entire Executive,” reads the note published on the official website of the presidency.

Sérgio Luther Rescova was born on May 16, 1980 in the municipality of Damba, province of Uíge. He was a deputy to the National Assembly, national secretary of the JMPLA (youth organization of the MPLA), governor of the provinces of Luanda and Uíge.
