The Council of Ministers had been meeting since 09:30 and the meeting ended at 20:00.

An official source from the Council of Ministers told Lusa that the OE2021 proposal was approved “in general”, but “there are still some issues to be closed.”

According to the same source, the Executive will meet again to close the files that are still open, and the date of this new Council of Ministers is not yet known.

During the briefing that took place in the early afternoon, but which was only for the Government to present other measures in labor matters, the Minister of State and Presidency, Mariana Vieira da Silva, when questioned by journalists, only promised on the date of delivery of the parliamentary document.

“The truth is that next Monday the State Budgets will be delivered to the Assembly of the Republic,” he said.

Mariana Vieira da Silva defended that the negotiation of a State Budget “is always an exercise of rapprochement between parties.”

Subsequently, the Minister of State and Presidency was questioned on several occasions about the negotiations, the measures and the timetable for the approval of the OE2021 proposal by the Government, but declined to add details.

“The negotiation around the State Budget is always an exercise of rapprochement between the parties within a framework of availability and responsibility in approving the Budget. This is the path that is being taken,” he replied, when asked about the interview of the Wednesday. to BE’s RTP, Catarina Martins, in which she was concerned about the “intransigence of the Government” in the budget negotiations, making the proposal to change the position of the Executive viable.

According to Mariana Vieira da Silva, this “approach exercise” is carried out “seeking to ensure that it is a budget that responds to the needs of the Portuguese, protection of workers and families and support for the resumption of economic activity that is desired. “It can be sustainable and positive.”

“Our conviction is that we are capable of making a path of rapprochement between the different positions, which is never a path in which a position is completely guaranteed, it is a path of approach, that is a negotiation,” he reiterated.

Regarding the measures that may be contained in the OE2021 government proposal, Mariana Vieira da Silva clarified that she will not speak on this issue.

After being delivered by the government to parliament on Monday, the OE2021 proposal is voted on in general on October 28, and the final global vote on the document is scheduled for November 26.
