The workers of the school canteens of Barcelos will go on strike on October 20 and will gather in front of the City Hall, in defense of their rights, that is, categories, workload and workforce ratios, a union announced today.
In a statement, the North Hospitality Union stressed that “fair and fair” salary increases and employment contracts for the entire school year are another of the demands of the school cafeteria employees.
“The Câmara de Barcelos held the public contest [para o pessoal das cantinas], but it did not take into account the rights of the workers, that is to say, categories, workload and proportions of personnel ”, says the statement.
In the protest on the 20th, the workers will gather in front of the City Council “to demand that the Chamber not cover the illegalities of the company and intercede in defense” of their rights.
Contacted by Lusa, the Câmara de Barcelos rejects responsibilities, stating that the tender specifications for the public tender for the provision of school meals specifies the contractual obligations on the part of the contractor, that is, regarding the full execution of services and resources humans needed.
“It is up to Uniself SA, winner of the public competition for the provision of school meals, in compliance with the obligations to which it is subject by the specifications, to respond to all questions related to human resources under the current contract,” he adds .
For the Sindicato Hotelaria do Norte, Uniself “did not hire several workers who worked in the school canteens of Barcelos for many years and reduced the workload to many workers.”
In addition, “it requires more tasks because the covid-19 imposes intense work rates, is forcing workers to sign indefinite contracts to be able to fire them at any time and has not yet paid all the rights of workers for the 2019 academic year. / 2020 ”.
For the union, all this happens because the Chamber of Barcelos did not safeguard the interests of the works in the public tender.
The workers claim, immediately, the payment of the salary differences due to the termination of the work contract at the end of the 2019/2020 academic year, referring to vacations, vacation allowances, Christmas allowances, compensation for expiration and undue discount of supposed vacations. more runs.
They also require the hiring of all workers who worked in the previous year, the replacement of the daily and weekly load from the previous year and the minimum guarantee of 25 hours per week.
