How much will an SDD cost for PS5? • Eurogamer.pt

Fortunately, less than the expansion money of the Xbox series.

The official teardown of the PS5 revealed yesterday by Sony revealed two very interesting facts about the console. The first is that the console uses Liquid Metal instead of traditional thermal paste to cool the CPU. The second is that there will be an expansion slot for 4th Gen NVMe PCIe SSDs.

For laymen, this expansion slot will allow users to choose the SSD they want for the console, in contrast to Microsoft’s Xbox series solution, which partnered with Seagate to create a proprietary SSD card.

But after all, how much does a 4th Gen NVMe PCIe SSD cost right now? The prices are high compared to the price of the console. On the Spanish Amazon, the Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe 4.0 disk currently costs € 199.99.

The AORUS 1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 disk from Gigabyte Technology costs, for example, € 214.00. Prices vary, but if you want to increase the storage space of the console so soon, do not forget to pay between 150 and 250 euros, depending on the disc, the brand and obviously the opportunity (if there is a discount or not).

Note that Sony has yet to reveal the official list of discs compatible with the console, so we do not know if the discs mentioned above meet the performance requirements of the console. The PlayStation 5 SSD, built into the console chip, has a performance capacity that still surpasses any SSD disk available on the market.

According to official PS5 specifications, your custom SSD has read speeds of 5.5GB / s (Raw) and 8-9GB / s (Compressed).
