More than two thousand passengers refused to carry out the diagnostic test for covid-19 upon arrival at Lisbon airport, revealed this Wednesday the Foreigners and Borders Service, the entity that supervises the presentation of the tests.

In the webinar “The covid-19 pandemic and internal security”, organized by PSP, the deputy director of the Lisbon border department of the SEF, Maria José Ribeiro, said that this security service controlled, until September 30, some 86 thousand passengers, 6,479 of whom did not carry the diagnostic test upon arrival and 2,159 refused to carry out the test at the airport.

As of July 15, passengers on flights originating in countries considered to be of epidemiological risk must present, upon arrival, proof of having carried out a negative test for SARS-CoV-2 infection, carried out 72 hours before departure. departure.

The inspector of this security service explained that passengers who refuse to take the test at the airport have 48 hours to do so and cannot be absent from home until the result is known.

“They are notified to carry out the test within 48 hours, and this communication is made to the authorities of the area of ​​residence,” he stressed.

Airlines that transport passengers without proof of covid-19 diagnostic tests may be fined, and the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) monitors compliance with these obligations.
