The PSD president criticized the Stayaway Covid app after being present at the State Council meeting on September 29 and not being alerted.
On Sunday it was reported that the State Councilor, António Lobo Xavier, is infected with Covid-19 and participated in this meeting where the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, António Costa and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa were also present. But everyone present at the meeting has already performed screening tests and tested negative, Rádio Renascença said on Monday.
“Since I was at the State Council meeting, the Stayaway Covid app should have alerted me. And it did not alert, ”Rui Rio wrote on social networks on Monday.
In response, the official account of the anti-Covid application on Twitter responded to the leader of the largest opposition party, explaining that the application only works if the infected person also has the application installed and follows several steps.
“Stayaway Covid alerts you only if the infected person 1) had the application active, 2) was within 2 meters of you for more than 15 minutes, 3) received a code from the doctor when the diagnosis was positive and 4) you have entered this code in the app ”, according to the app account.
In less than a month, the application has already been downloaded by more than a million people, according to a balance made by the Ministry of Health on September 21. “The mobile application, launched on September 1, allows to track, quickly and anonymously and through physical proximity between smartphones, the networks contagious by COVID-19, informing users that they have been, in the last 14 days, in the same space as someone infected with the new coronavirus. Its installation is voluntary ”.
But how does this app work? “Every user who has tested positive can enter the test code in the app. After validation by the General Directorate of Health, the application will alert other users who have been close to the infected user – for 15 minutes or more – without ever revealing their identity, their contacts or those of other users ”, explains the Ministry of health.
“When there is no record of proximity contacts with a high risk of contagion, the home page of the application has a green color that will change to yellow whenever the user has been near someone diagnosed with Covid-19”, according to the Government.
