António Lobo Xavier, lawyer and political commentator, is infected with covid-19. Speaking to SIC, he said he was fine, “with just a mild cough.”
The lawyer has been in the news in recent days for being present at the Council of State on September 29, where other people were also present, including the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, António Costa and President from the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
All those who were on the State Council had to take the covid-19 test. António Lobo Xavier is the only one infected.
“I would probably not be infected at that time (Council of State) and I certainly felt very good that day. I am sorry for the inconvenience I caused. There was a great alarm, which I understand to some extent, but it is just me, isolated and guarded, at risk sequels. The others are happily fine “said the lawyer.
The political commentator confesses that he was convinced that “with care and respecting the rules, it would be practically unattainable.” But that idea quickly lost its shape.
“Life showed me that there was a lot of arrogance in my belief: care and rules reduce risk, but do not prevent infection 100%. I also realized that we must immediately hand over to the authorities an exhaustive list of our contacts. This is what I did and this is what allowed so many people to stay alert and get tested in such a short time. I think it went well and with good results “, he stated.
After testing positive for COVID-19, the political commentator isolated himself at home, was telecommuting and says he left social life outside the realm of the “nuclear family.”
António Lobo Xavier also leaves a note: “There are thousands of people who are going through what I do, anonymously, and probably in worse conditions. That alone is what worries me right now.”.
