PS5 makes a change that infuriates fans in Japan

The PS5 will not reach consumers in Portugal until November 19. And at a time when it began to be tested by the first influencers in Japan, there is a change that infuriates the fans of the Asian country.

As the Japanese website Famitsu mentioned, Sony changed the function of the ‘X’ and ‘O’ buttons at home. This means that, as in the West, they will play the role of accepting and rejecting, respectively.

Wow, this is great news for UI / UX. PlayStation 5 will use the X button to confirm by default for ALL REGIONS, including Japan, which previously used O to confirm for the past 26 years. Muscle memory frustration looms for the nearly 10 million PS users in Japan.

For any PlayStation user in Portugal, it is always practical to use the ‘X’ to accept something and the ‘O’ to reject. But in Japan it has always been the other way around since the appearance of the first console.

This means that it has been 26 years of getting used to a mechanic, to which the PS5 will force you to get used to it. Remember that on PS4 this change has already begun, but the choice was made in Settings.

Players from Japan and other Asian countries reacted to this change with some fury on social media, but aware that they will have to get used to it. The objective is understood: Sony wants to go global.
