The midfielder wants to convince Diego Simeone. Benfica tried too, but the response was perpetual.

The return of Héctor Herrera is a hypothesis that FC Porto is raising, but it is difficult to achieve. GAME knows that the Atlético de Madrid midfielder was approached by an element linked to the blue and white structure, to understand if there would be availability to do the opposite way to last season. But FC Porto was not the only Portuguese club to contact the Mexican international. Benfica has also done it twice in this market, but on both occasions Herrera’s response was the same: in the I League, he only accepted to play for the shield he represented between 2013/14 and 2018/19.

Despite this affective connection, return is not the most likely hypothesis. The 30-year-old midfielder is assessing the situation and is inclined to remain at Atlético de Madrid to gain space in the elections of coach Diego Simeone. Hired a year ago at zero cost by the colchoneros, the former FC Porto captain did not have it easy in Spain. Herrera has been used in 30 games, 18 of which are the starting lineup, in the least use since he came to Europe through Dragon Gate. Curiously, the only goal he has scored so far was in his debut and earned him a draw (2-2) against Juventus, in the Champions League, but Atlético aims at Herrera’s transfer, to gain a place (in the team and in the sheet) for Lucas Torreira. The Uruguayan has already undergone medical examinations, but it has not yet been made official. Even so, Herrera, who last weekend did the first minutes of the season (14 ”), understands that he has not yet shown all that Simeone is worth and is determined to achieve it … at least until January.
