The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) seized 17,000 liters of white grape must in the demarcated region of Vinho Verde, Minho, for an approximate value of 9,200 euros.

According to a press release, ASAE, through the Criminal Investigation and Information Unit, launched “in September, at the height of the harvest season, a series of inspection actions.”

The objective of the inspection was “to verify compliance with the legal regulations underlying the transit of wine products.”

In the course of these actions, 17,000 liters of white grape must were seized, in the demarcated region of Vinho Verde, for an approximate amount of 9,200.00 euros “, says the press release.

This apprehension was due to the fact that “there are well-founded suspicions that the grapes that gave rise to this must were not from that demarcated region” of vinho verde.

“Supposedly falsified documentation was detected, used to hide the true origin of the grapes, giving it an origin that they did not have, thus violating the wine legislation that aims to guarantee the authenticity of the Vinho Verde and safeguard the interests of the consumers of this product. ”, Informs.

The inspection actions, explains the ASAE, were carried out in “close collaboration and coordination with the Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region and resulted in the establishment of two criminal proceedings for trafficking in wine products.
