This Saturday occupies for now the third worst day since the start of the pandemic, in Portugal, in terms of the number of new cases. The bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) indicates that in the last 24 hours more 963 people were infected, thus increasing the total number of infections to 78,247. That’s how third highest daily increase since the start of the pandemic.

The maximum number of new daily infections is still the value registered on April 10 with 1,516 new cases. Second, on March 31 with 1035 new cases and now on October 3 with 963 new infections.

In the past 24 hours, 12 more people have died from Covid-19, according to the bulletin. Of the total, six were registered in the Lisbon and Tagus Valley region (LVT). The North continues with three more deaths, the Center with two more and the Alentejo with the rest. However, the north remains the region where the majority of people have died since the pandemic began.: 891, compared to 781 deaths recorded in LVT. Portugal is close to reaching 2,000 deaths: 1,995 have already died from Covid-19.

Regarding the number of cases, 80% of new infections in the last 24 hours were registered in the LVT and North regions together. Of the total of 963 new cases, 440 took place in Lisbon (42.91% of the total) and 362 in the North (40.88%), which thus passes the line of 28 thousand cases forever. Then comes the Central area with 60 more new cases, the Algarve with 49 more and the Alentejo with 43. In the islands, Madeira registered seven more infections and the Azores two more.

The number of active cases, that is, people who are infected at the moment, continues to increase. Accounts made, there 26,407 people infected in Portugal at the same time. There are still 46,228 people who are under surveillance by the health authorities.

963 new cases and 12 deaths. Trump takes remdesivir

The DGS bulletin this Saturday also reports that another 486 people recovered from the disease, 49,845 the total number of recoveries, since the beginning of the pandemic. Portugal is therefore close to exceeding the line of 50,000 people recovered.

There are also less 14 people hospitalized and one more left intensive care in relation to the last DGS balance sheet. Then there is this moment 668 people hospitalized and, of them, 106 are in intensive care.

The characterization of fatal victims by sex shows that, of the total in 1995, one thousand were men and the remaining 995 were women. On the other hand, there were more infections in women: 42,760 compared to 35,487 in men.
