The Director General of Health says the number of active outbreaks across the country has decreased in recent days. Now there are 334, most of them in the Lisbon region.

We have 344 registered outbreaks, 125 in the North, 35 in the Center, 142 in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 20 in the Alentejo and 22 in the Algarve, reflecting a much lower number than in other periods. Fortunately, there has been a reduction “, underlined Graça Freitas.

The Director General of Health admitted that she could stop making detailed analyzes of each outbreak, but commented on the situation that occurs in a nursing home in Bragança and another in Montalegre, as well as an outbreak that originated in a cafe in Alenquer and that already resulted in 11 confirmed cases.

Faced with a possible suspension of home visits in the context of an aggravation of the pandemic, similar to what happened during the March and April closure, Graça Freitas was prudent in the face of a repetition of this decision.

“We have to weigh infection control and humanized security measures very well. We have to be very cautious; visits are not usually associated with transmission, because they are very controlled, sporadic and have very fixed rules. It is easier than the The transmission is made from the professionals, because they are the ones who come from abroad every day to the institution ”, he pointed out.

According to the Director General of Health, the country is currently “comfortable in relation to the number of elderly people who have been affected” by covid-19.

Graça Freitas highlighted the stability of the percentage changes in the different age groups, recalling that at this stage young adults are the population group most affected by the disease and that people over 70 years of age represent only 15% of those infected .
