The General Directorate of Health (DGS) announced on Friday the existence of a total of 1,983 deaths and 77,284 cases of covid-19 in Portugal since the start of the pandemic.

The death toll went from 1,977 to 1,983, 6 more than on Thursday. The DGS indicates that of the six deaths registered, five occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, where the highest number of infections is also found, and one in the North region.

The number of infected increased from 76,396 to 77,284, 888 more than on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours, 422 people have recovered from the disease, with the total recovered since the start of the pandemic 49,359

Regarding the number of people hospitalized, 682 are hospitalized. There are 107 people hospitalized in intensive care.

The bulletin also indicates that health authorities have 45,613 contacts under surveillance, 429 more than on Thursday, and that 422 patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Numbers by regions

Today, the North region registers 363 additional new cases of covid-19, totaling 27,732 and 888 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

In the Central region there were 82 more cases, representing 6,294 infections and 263 deaths.

In Alentejo, two more new cases of covid-19 were registered, for a total of 1,512, leaving the 23 deaths previously registered.

The Algarve region today reported 50 more cases of infection, adding 1,743 cases and keeping the 19 dead.

In the Autonomous Region of the Azores, five new cases were registered in the last 24 hours, totaling 280 infections detected and 15 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Madeira has registered five cases in the last 24 hours, representing 235 infections, with no deaths to date.

Age range of cases

Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years. The age group of 40 and 49 years is the highest value.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 35,060 men and 42,224 women in Portugal, according to reported cases.
Of the total deaths, 993 were men and 990 women.

56 infected from Lar da Misericórdia de Bragança are asymptomatic

This Friday morning, the number of people infected with covid-19 in Lar da Misericórdia in Bragança rose to 56, with 45 users and 11 employees. None of the infected people have symptoms.

In the course of today, the results of 44 more tests should be known.
