The IPMA also issued a yellow warning for the districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon for the agitation of the sea, with waves from the northwest of 4 to 5 meters, until 6:00 am on Saturday . .

The yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.

The warning of maritime disturbances led the National Maritime Authority to ask the population to avoid walks along the coast, on the cliffs and on the beaches, as well as recreational fishing, after the passage of the Alex depression.

In a statement released this Thursday, the National Maritime Authority explained that the agitation of the sea resulting from the depression could generate waves of six meters, whose duration could be “between 10 and 12 seconds.”

The wind can “register speeds greater than 60 kilometers per hour and gusts greater than 85 kilometers per hour.”

For this reason, the National Maritime Authority recommends, especially in the coastal regions of the North and Center of the country, to avoid walks “along the coast, on the cliffs and on the beaches, as well as the practice of recreational activities in areas exposed to agitation. from sea”. .

According to IPMA, Alex’s depression will pass in the Bay of Biscay and head to France.

The IPMA forecast also points to a drop in temperature, especially the maximum, which will vary between 13 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees in the regions north of the Tagus Valley and between 18 and 25 degrees in the south.
