Portugal with more than 854 cases of covid-19 and six deaths – Coronavirus

Portugal has a total of 76,396 confirmed cases of infection by the new coronavirus, which means that, in the last 24 hours, 854 new cases, according to the data revealed this Thursday, October 1 by the General Directorate of Health (DGS). Yesterday 825 new cases were reported.

The number of deaths related to covid-19 rose to 1,977, representing more six deaths compared to yesterday, the day that eight coronavirus-related deaths were reported.

The number of active cases, resulting from the subtraction of deaths and recovered cases from the total confirmed cases, reached 25,482, the highest number since the start of the pandemic, and that marks the fourth consecutive record.

The number of daily cases is higher than yesterday and corresponds to the third worst day since mid-April. THE The daily average of new cases for the last seven days is now 748.6, an increase from 725.3 yesterday and representing a peak compared to mid-April.

In the last 14 days, Portugal accumulated 97.13 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants. This indicator, widely used internationally to measure the spread of the virus, went from 96.3 yesterday and is also the highest since mid-April.

Cases in the North at May Highs

Of the 854 new confirmed cases in Portugal in the last 24 hours, 415 were in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, compared to 398 yesterday. This means that Lisbon and the Tagus Valley concentrated 49% of new cases identified no country.

The Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley also accounted for the majority of deaths (five out of six), the other being in the North.

Lisbon and the Tagus Valley now account for a total of 39,107 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic and 770 deaths.

Of the 439 new cases remaining in the last 24 hours, 340 were in the North, the highest number since May 8.

Hospitalizations renew May highs

At the moment, a total of 682 patients infected with the new coronavirus are admitted to health units in Portugal, an increase of 16 compared to Monday (666) to a new high since May 13.

Hospitalizations in intensive care units, by contrast, rose by two to a total of 107, a high since May 17.

As for recovered patients, there are now 48,937, 407 more than yesterday.

Taking into account the number of infected and fatal victims, the fatality rate was reduced to 2.59%, which corresponds to the lowest value since April 4 and compares with the peak above 4% recorded in early June.
