A group of 17 illegal Moroccan immigrants fled the Headquarters of the Infantry Regiment No. 1 of the Tavira Detachment, in the Algarve, during the early hours of this Thursday.

According to RTP, which advanced the news, two have already been detained by the authorities, but 15 remain at large.

The flight of migrants was also confirmed by the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) for the public.

These migrants are part of the group of 28 who arrived in the Algarve on September 15, in which 24, all men, were placed in the Tavira barracks. Three women, one pregnant, were installed in the Santo António Housing Unit in Porto and a minor was handed over to the Family and Juvenile Court.

At that time, SEF reported that two of these migrants had to be separated from the group because they tested positive for COVID-19.

According to SEF, the remaining migrants were placed in the barracks under quarantine prophylactic.

As for the two migrants who have already been detained, SEF reported that one had to be transferred to the Faro Hospital, after injuring his foot during the escape, and the other is at the PSP facilities in Tavira.

In addition, all the necessary mechanisms to locate the 15 illegal immigrants have already been deployed on the ground, together with the other national and Spanish criminal police forces, the SEF reported.

The PSP explained to the PUBLIC that it detected, at two in the morning, a group next to the railway line in the city of Tavira, made up of a dozen people who showed suspicious behavior.

According to the PSP, given the approach of the police elements, “most of the people in the group fled and they were able to approach two of these people.

PSP states that it is fully committed to supporting SEF in the effort to spot the rest of the group.
