“If it weren’t for the intervention [médica], the child had died in 20 minutes ”. This is how Luís Pinto Nunes, the INEM technician who saved Salvador, the baby abandoned in the garbage next to the Lux nightclub in Lisbon, reported through tears the day the child was found.

The technician, in an emotional testimony, assured that everyone around him was in panic and that they were tense minutes to save the child’s life.

Salvador had a bleeding in the navel, due to the cut of the umbilical cord, when they found him. He was in critical condition when, with the intervention of the INEM, he was saved.

To save the boy, Luis used a disposable glove and made a tourniquet to stop the boy’s bleeding. He also gave oxygen so that the boy could catch his breath, however, the baby was slow to react.

Salvador, a name suggested by the technician who saved his life, was quickly transferred to the Doña Estefânia Hospital and then left in the care of a host family.

The boy’s mother is in the Tires prison. Sara Furtado, 22, is charged with aggravated murder in the form of intent.
