Eleven infections of covid-19 are associated with an outbreak that originated in an outdoor public space where cards are played, in the parish of Meca, municipality of Alenquer.

The delegate of Health Pompeu Balsa confirmed to the Lusa agency that there are 11 positive cases associated with a garden in a town in the parish of Meca, where citizens gather to socialize and play cards. “All are retired and elderly,” he added, adding that of the 11, only two cases show symptoms. The outbreak “is under control”, since the 16 people who frequented the place were subjected to diagnostic tests.

The first case associated with the convivial place appeared on the 16th, followed by a second on the 20th and a third on the last Saturday, which led the health authorities to determine whether to carry out the tests on Monday and Tuesday.

The health delegate warned that infected people were infected because they lived “without a mask.” “If they kept their physical distance or used a mask, in case it was impossible to be at a distance, this outbreak would be reduced or avoided,” said Pompeu Balsa, clarifying that if they follow the recommendations of the General Health Directorate, they can continue “meeting , playing cards or watching games. “

In a statement, the Parish Council of Mecca affirms that, “due to the high number of active cases in the parish, the celebration of the weekly market in Espiçandeira is suspended for a certain time.”

The municipality of Alenquer registers 376 confirmed cases, of which 313 are recovered, five have died and 58 are active, 11 more than on Tuesday, according to the epidemiological bulletin released today by this municipality in the Lisbon district.

Of the 58 active cases, 15 are in the parish of Mecca.
