Alex’s depression, which is set to hit Portugal from the end of October 1, will bring strong winds and rain to the northern region of the country, with special attention to Minho.

According to information provided by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this is the first depression of the 2020/21 season and will leave the districts of Viana do Castelo and Braga under yellow notice between 03:00 on the 2nd and until 3:00 p.m. on the same day.

Gusts of up to 110 km / h are expected in the mountains, specifically in the Peneda-Gerês National Park area and in other mountainous conglomerates in both districts.

In a statement sent to O MINHO, the IPMA warns that the effects of this depression on the continent will essentially be felt by increasing the intensity of the wind from the end of October 1, extending until the end of October 2, especially in the northern and central regions, where gusts can reach 75 km / h on the coast and up to 110 km / h in the mountains.

“Additionally, this depression is associated with a frontal system of moderate activity, which will approach from the end of the afternoon on day 1, and will cross the entire territory on day 2, accompanied by locally intense rains in the regions north of the mountain system. . Montejunto-Estrela ”.

On day 2 a drop in temperature is also expected, especially the maximum that will vary between approximately 12 and 18 ° C in the regions north of the Tagus Valley and between 18 and 25 ° C in the south.

A significant increase in sea turbulence is expected on the west coast, particularly between the early morning of the 2nd and the early morning of the 3rd, especially in the north with Cabo Raso, where the significant height of the waves can reach 4 to 5 meters. .
