The Chega bill to limit the office of prime minister and other rulers to only bearers of Portuguese origin was rejected this Tuesday by the Assembly of the Republic for unconstitutionality.

The order of the president of the Assembly of the Republic, Ferro Rodrigues, in which the deputy of Chega, André Ventura, is announced the non-acceptance of the project, and to which Lusa had access, is dated September 25.

Ferro Rodrigues argued that the bill does not meet the admissibility requirements for violating paragraph 1 a) of Article 120 of the Assembly Regulations.

This article, on the limits of an initiative, establishes that “bills and proposed laws or proposed amendments that violate the Constitution or the principles contained therein are not allowed.”

Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues also invoked, in his resolution, an opinion in this regard from the parliamentary committee on Constitutional Affairs in which Chega’s proposal was considered unconstitutional for violating article 50, which establishes that “all citizens have the right of access, in conditions of equality and freedom, to the public function ”.
