An agent of the Braga Municipal Police was hit with a punch in the face early Tuesday in the historic center of Braga, the O MINHO source reported.

According to Paulo Barroso, coordinator, the agent supervised street vending in the center of Braga when he approached an individual who was selling without a license and asked him to remove the material from the public highway.

The latter allegedly contested and decided not to comply with the order of the authority, ending up handcuffed on the spot, in front of the Tourist Office, at the top of Avenida da Liberdade.

A street vendor allegedly “inadvertently” attacked the agent of the prime minister of Braga

During the seller’s handling, the seller will have hit the agent in the mouth, eventually causing injury.

He was eventually arrested and taken to a cell awaiting a court appearance this afternoon in Braga.

Paulo Barroso regrets this type of situation that has become recurrent, pointing out the lack of respect for officers in the exercise of their duties.

The prime minister of Braga has not had hands to measure with a high number of complaints for abusive parking, but, above all, for the breach of the rules stipulated in relation to the covid-19 pandemic.

This aggression has already been condemned by the National Municipal Police Union (SNPM), which showed solidarity with the attacked agent, leaving criticism of the police management by the Braga command.

In a statement, the SNPM “cannot stop pointing a finger at the way in which the organization of personnel is carried out, in singular patrols placed in the street that can enhance these conflictive scenarios.”

“The increase in aggressions against law enforcement officials is worrying, which leads to a reflection in the working conditions provided to agents, from the year-to-year approach of the minimum wage, the weakness of status and the lack of attribution of risk subsidy ”, denounces that Union.
