The Middle Tagus region registered 49 new patients for covid-19 in the last 24 hours, 45 of which in Entroncamento, two in Tomar, one in Abrantes and another in Mação. It is the highest record in a single day at ACES Médio Tejo since the start of the pandemic. There are infected students from several schools in Ourém, Entroncamento and Torres Novas and the outbreak of Lar dos Ferroviários in Entroncamento quadrupled the number of infected, with 83 currently active cases, 50 of them in users and 31 in employees.

At Entroncamento, a Kindergarten child in Zona Verde in Entroncamento tested positive for Covid-19, forcing the entire class to be prophylactically isolated. Still in Entroncamento, another positive case was detected in a high school student, however, the situation did not imply isolation from classmates since the student in question only participated on the first day of classes. In Torres Novas, two sisters tested positive, which forced the suspension of classes in two classes at the Santa María School Center, which belongs to the Artur Gonçalves School Group. The situation forced about 50 students, two teachers and an assistant to be at home to complete the quarantine.

In the 13 municipalities of the Middle Tagus, there are 589 cases of contagion registered in the post-confinement period, 440 more than those reported in the initial phase of containment of the disease.

In Alto Alentejo, Gavião registered the only nine cases of covid-19 in August. Ponte de Sor accumulates a total of 23 positive cases. At least five of the cases refer to people who do not reside in the municipality and who have not updated their tax residence, so the municipality only mentions the occurrence of 18 cases.

Lezíria do Tejo, in turn, has today a total accumulated of 1,019 patients (+1), of which 390 cases in the municipality of Santarém, according to data from the Regional Network. Chamusca today has a total of 22 patients (-), including one death to regret, and Golegã has a total of 24 infections (+1). The Lezíria region registers 35 deaths (+1), 22 of which in Santarém.

The Santarém district has a cumulative total of 1735 cases (1019 in Lezíria do Tejo and 716 in ACES Médio Tejo), and a total of 52 deaths (35 in Lezíria and 17 in ACES Médio Tejo). Lezíria do Tejo has a total of 786 recovered patients (+16) and ACES Médio Tejo has 447 (-), which gives a total of 1233 people recovered from the virus.

Portugal with nine more deaths and 665 new cases in the last 24 hours

To date, Portugal has nine more deaths related to covid-19 and 665 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Directorate of Health (DGS). Since the start of the pandemic, Portugal has registered 1,953 deaths and 73,604 cases of infection, with 24,004 active cases, 389 more than the previous day.

The DGS indicates that of the nine deaths registered, five occurred in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region, where the highest number of infections is also found, two in the north and two in the center of the country.

The number of hospital admissions has increased in the last 24 hours, registering 20 more people, in a total of 635 patients hospitalized with covid-19, as well as patients admitted to intensive care units, which according to the latest figures are already 89 (more four).

The bulletin also indicates that the health authorities have 44,274 contacts under surveillance, 691 more in relation to Saturday, and that 267 patients were reported to have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, 47,647 people have recovered from the disease. Confirmed cases are distributed in all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years old, with an emphasis on the 30-49 age group.

Overall, the new coronavirus has already infected at least 33,371 men and 40,233 women in Portugal, based on reported cases. Of the total fatalities, 984 were men and 969 women. The highest number of deaths is still concentrated in people over 80 years of age.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 998,463 deaths and around 32.9 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
