Lourosa lost this Sunday, 1-0, at the home of neighbor São João de Ver, being eliminated from the Portuguese Cup.
The defeat upset the structure and, after the end of the game, the players and the technical team were forced to return on foot to Lourosa, on a journey of six kilometers.
The bus will have received instructions to leave the São João de Ver stadium and the delegation had to make the return trip on their own.
To JN, the president of Lourosa, Hugo Mendes, explained that the decision came from the squad. “The players went on foot, but the decision was made by the group and the technical team, in a self-critical way. There was no penalty,” he said.
The Players Union also reacted to the case, “considering the attitude of the Lourosa president unacceptable when he dismissed the bus that would transfer the team after the match against São João de Ver, forcing the players to return on foot.”
This attitude has no justification and is a lack of respect for the players, personally and professionally. The Union does not expect, therefore, another attitude from the president of Lourosa that is not the immediate retraction with the squad, due to this unfortunate episode that does not dignify Portuguese football and the Portuguese Cup, at a difficult moment to resume in a pandemic context , which must motivate, regardless of the sporting result, unity, solidarity and respect among all ”.
