(Special) How much does a PC cost at the PlayStation 5 level?

[ad_1]

How much does a PC cost at the PlayStation 5 level? – The great advantage of the world of consoles is that they are simpler, but above all they are able to offer a high performance package, in a small and clear body … Significantly cheaper than a comparable PC.

However, now that we know the price of the new generation of consoles, it may be a good idea to finally realize what a difference it makes. Is it much more expensive to build a PC with comparable performance? Let’s try to understand!

Note: The goal of this article is to build a PC with a similar level of performance to the PS5, and not a PC at the same price as the Sony console. If you want a low-cost PC, read the article below:

How much does a PC cost at the PlayStation 5 level?

Playstation 5 equivalent PC

So, as you can imagine, it is completely impossible to create a PC 100% equal to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S. After all, although there are many things exactly the same, the architecture of the systems is different! Especially in the case of PS5, which uses a storage solution that we will never find in the world of PCs.

So we will opt for similar or equivalent components

So since we know that the PS5 and Xbox Series X have 8 Zen 2 processing cores, we will have to look at the Ryzen 7 3700X, which is there, it also has 8 Zen 2 processing cores.

In the graphics field, we also know that the PS5 has a GPU based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture. An architecture that promises a lot, by also bringing Ray-Tracing, but which unfortunately has not yet reached the market. So let’s go for something equivalent on the NVIDIA side (the only manufacturer with Ray Tracing). That is the RTX 2080 It offers about 10 TFLOPs of graphical computing power. (PS5 offers 10.28 TFLOP)

However, as the PS5’s SSD is PCIe 4.0 NVMe, we will have to opt for a B550 or X570 motherboard to gain access to the technology. I opted for the ASUS Prime B550, because I think it is a good value for money product.

In storage, I would immediately choose the new Samsung 980 Pro which already rivals the speed of the PS5’s SSD. But since this boy has not yet reached the market, we will opt for another PCIe 4.0 solution, in this case from Gigabyte. We also have to go for a 1TB SSD, as there are no 825GB solutions on the market.

In RAM, things aren’t even comparable, as in the PC world we use DDR4 memory, while next-gen consoles will use a shared GDDR6 memory package. With that said, let’s go for a DDR4-3600MHz RAM kit, which is the favorite frequency of AMD’s Zen 2 architecture.

To put the same Black and White theme, we will choose a box of this Corsair style.

List of components (Total: € 1727 or € 1710 with coupon ‘GDLEAK20’ in Globaldata):

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (8 cores and 16 threads) – € 291.90
  • Graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 – € 719.90
  • Motherboard: ASUS B550 Prime Plus – € 137.90
  • SSD: Gigabyte AORUS 1TB PCIe 4.0 – € 249.90
  • Power supply: Seasonic 80+ Gold Full Modular – € 109.90
  • RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo RGB 3600MHz CL16 – € 139.90
  • ATM: Corsair 275R Airflow: – € 77.90

We must not forget the Operating System, that if it is the W10 it will cost you some extra money, depending on where you want to buy it.

conclusion

Of course, there are many differences between a PC and a console.

After all, while Microsoft and Sony’s efforts are focused only and only on games, on a PC we can work, have fun, be productive, creative, etc. Plus, the prices here don’t tell the whole story either! Given that NVIDIA is currently revamping its range of graphics cards, the price of the RTX 2080 does not make much sense in today’s market (it is the most expensive component of Build).

In short, this article is more of a “curiosity” than a “reality”.
